| Staff Development
Training at Mercy Flight Central begins with a comprehensive
orientation program. This program is then
supported with high quality
continuing and recurrent education. Coupled with an aggressive
quality improvement program, these teaching opportunities form the essential elements that
enable Mercy Flight Central Air Medical Providers
to provide an exceptional level of care. The Staff
Development Department is responsible for assuring that our
medical staff possess the knowledge and skills required to
provide this outstanding care to our patients and partners.
After undergoing a rigorous
pre-employment screening process, Mercy Flight Central Air
Medical Providers receive a six month
orientation and internship including:
Flight Physiology
Advanced Airway Management
Rapid Sequence Induction
Ventilator Management
Treatment of:
Multi-System Trauma (Severely
Injured Patients)
Cardiac Problems (Heart Problems)
Respiratory Problems (Breathing Problems)
Cerebrovascular Accidents (Strokes)
Training in the use of the
following equipment:
Multi-function Cardiac
Monitor/Defibrillator/Pacemaker
12-Lead EKG
Invasive Line Monitoring
Waveform Capnography
Mechanical Ventilator
Multi-Channel IV Pumps
Aircraft Safety & Awareness
Air Medical Resource Management
In addition, all Mercy Flight
Central Air Medical Personnel undergo the following recurrent
training:
Invasive Skills Labs Every 3
Months
Infection Control
Safety and Survival Training
Air Medical Resource Management
State EMS Regulations
In addition to maintaining
their Nursing license or Paramedic certification, Mercy Flight
Central Air Medical Personnel are required to maintain
currency in the following subjects:
CPR
Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Pediatric Advanced Life Support
Basic Trauma Life Support or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support
Finally, all Mercy Flight
Central Air Medical Providers are strongly encouraged to obtain
additional professional certifications including:
Certified Flight Registered Nurse
(CFRN)
Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)
Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN)
National Registry Paramedic (NREMT-P)
Critical Care Paramedic (CCEMT-P)
Certified Flight Paramedic (FP-C)
